I Am Building a Global Directory of RC Clubs and Model Sites
Where can you actually fly, drive or sail an RC model? I have built the platform for a global directory of RC clubs and model sites — open to everyone, and you can add your own entry.
Starting an adventure with RC modelling often begins with choosing a first model, radio transmitter or simulator. Very soon, however, another question appears: where can I actually fly, drive or sail my RC model?
Many towns and regions have active RC clubs, local groups and informal communities. There are also model airfields, race tracks, crawling areas, lakes and other locations that RC enthusiasts have been using for years.
The problem is that information about these places is usually scattered across Facebook groups, forums and private conversations. Many great locations are known almost exclusively to local modellers.
That is why I have built the platform for a directory of RC clubs and model sites.
Not just clubs and not just flying models
The directory is intended to cover the entire RC community. Locations can be added for:
- RC airplanes, gliders and flying wings,
- helicopters and other rotorcraft,
- RC cars, trucks and crawlers,
- RC boats and sailing models,
- drones, quadcopters and FPV models.
A location does not have to be an official model airfield or a site owned by a large club. It may be a local RC track, a safe field regularly used by model pilots, a lake suitable for model boats or a crawling area known to local enthusiasts.
The most important thing is that the location is genuinely used by RC modellers and that using it is permitted.
Clubs and locations are separate entries
The directory allows users to add both RC clubs and individual RC locations. A club listing can include information about its activities, supported types of models, contact details and whether the club welcomes and helps beginners.
Locations used by the club can be added separately. One club may therefore be connected with several airfields, race tracks or sailing areas.
It is also possible to add an independent location that is not connected to any club. This makes it possible to include less formal but valuable places that are well known among local modellers.
Important information in one place
A map pin alone is not enough. Someone visiting a location for the first time should know what to expect before travelling there. Each location can therefore include:
- an exact map location,
- supported types of RC models,
- information about public access,
- information about whether permission is required,
- club membership requirements,
- available days and opening hours,
- local rules and regulations,
- warnings and safety information,
- access and parking information,
- photographs of the location.
This helps prevent situations where someone travels a long distance only to discover that permission is required, access is restricted or the site is available only to club members.
Helping people get started with RC
For a beginner, meeting an experienced modeller can be more valuable than spending many hours watching tutorials. Help with checking a model, setting up a transmitter, performing the first launch or choosing a safe place to fly can prevent an early crash and unnecessary frustration.
The directory is therefore intended to do more than simply show locations on a map. Its purpose is also to help people find local clubs, groups and experienced modellers who can help them begin their RC journey.
Why add your RC club?
A public listing can help a club reach new modellers from the local area. It can also clearly explain the rules for using the club's location and organise information that may currently exist only on Facebook, a forum or in private messages.
Adding a club or location is free and the listing does not expire. No user account is required. After submitting an entry, the person responsible for it receives a private link that can later be used to update the information, add photographs or request removal of the listing.
